Wichita Spinal Cord Injury, Recovery
The Project Walk Center is an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping patients with spinal cord injuries regain greater range of motion. We have centers throughout the United States and Europe, including a facility that is near Wichita, Kansas. The Project Walk Center uses a variety of therapies to help improve the lives and abilities of those with spinal cord injuries, such as paraplegic or quadriplegic patients. The mission of the Project Walk Center is to help patients with spinal cord injury enter recovery through efforts such as exercise, education and positive encouragement.

Dardzinski Method® of Recovery
Project Walk follows the Dardzinski theory of recovery, which includes five stages:

Stages 1 and 2 – Stimulate the nervous system to increase joint stabilization and rebuild the nervous system pathways to move past the injury site through reorganization.

Stage 3 – Use stimulation and positioning to encourage muscle contractions that will help recovery progress.

Stage 4 – Help improve the coordination of the ability to move arms and legs to the point where walking
becomes a possibility. Walk aids are usually necessary at first.

Stage 5 – Assist patients to move the legs to walk with aids or without aids and continue to strive towards progression and improvement.

A New Kind of SCI Recovery
The Project Walk Center near Wichita, KS can assist individuals who are quadriplegic, paraplegic or experiencing other forms of spinal cord injury and need intense exercise in order to regain some function. The Center is a state-of-the-art facility that offers slightly non-traditional rehab theories to help assist in spinal cord injury recovery and therapy. The Project Walk Center is also set up to assist children experiencing spinal cord injury as well as the family, including teaching a family member how to work with the child at home on a long-term basis. The process of recovery at Project Walk does not have a specific timeline, as each individual will progress at a different rate. Some of the benefits that patients at Project Walk see include increased health, sensation, muscle mass, central nervous system, less pain medication and an overall increase in the quality of life.
