St. Louis Spinal Cord Injury, Recovery
It used to be that people with spinal cord injuries were destined to a life in a wheel chair. But today, there is hope. Now those who are paraplegic or quadriplegic have hope that one day they can walk again or at least gain back some of the physical abilities they once had. Organizations like Project Walk help to make this possible for SCI victims in places like St. Louis, Missouri. Project Walk is not like other Recovery facilities. Our success is based on our staff and their exercise recovery techniques. They create new ways to move muscles and bodies and stimulate nervous systems. Everyone on our staff is a certified SCI recovery specialist. Rather than a sterile hospital setting, we work in a gym-like setting. We use standard fitness industry equipment that has been modified to help Recovery patients exercise in a safe and effective way.
Home Recovery Option
Project Walk bridges the gap between spinal cord injury and recovery. Paraplegics and quadriplegics can join us as soon as they are released from hospital care. They can stay with us and work toward their goals for as long as they need. But for those patients who live in St. Louis, MO, we offer a one-week intense home Recovery program. We will design a workout to teach the client how to perform the exercises recovery correctly at home. Our home program clients gain an understanding of what we do and why we do it along with an exercise book and DVD to follow.
Dardzinski Method® of Recovery
Our recovery style is based on the Dardzinski Method®. First we stimulate the nervous system to rebuild pathways. We use stimulation and positioning to create muscle contractions that aid in the recovery. We work on improving coordination in the arms and/or legs. We continue helping patients to move their legs to walk with aids and continue to strive toward walking without aids.
Setting New Expectations for Spinal Cord Injury Clients
The Dardzinski Method® is proving that St. Louis, MO spinal cord injury patients don’t have to accept immobility for the rest of their lives. While modern medicine tells us that spinal cord injuries can’t be fixed, students of the Dardzinski Method® are proving them wrong. First they said people with spinal cord injuries couldn’t walk again. Wrong. With therapy, they did. They also said anyone with injuries over two years old couldn’t be rehabilitated. Wrong again. We plan to continue our methods and hope to break down the old beliefs and help victims of SCI to keep hoping, moving, and gaining ground.
Hope for Those with Spinal Cord Injuries
For the past 50 years, everything related to SCI was based on the principles of occupational medicine. SCI clients were taught to cope and live with their injuries. Today, however, recovery is an option for those wishing to improve the quality of their lives. Clients of the Dardzinski Method® have taught us not only that you can retrain a damaged nervous system back to a functional one, but that with hope and perseverance, nothing is impossible.
