Omaha Spinal Cord Injury, Recovery
For spinal cord injury patients in Omaha, NE, there’s a program that helps retrain your muscles and rebuild nervous system pathways-things that the traditional medical community once thought impossible. That’s what Project Walk is all about. At Project Walk, we have created a gym-like setting where paraplegics and quadriplegics can challenge their bodies to do the “impossible”. We use traditional exercise equipment that has been modified to help SCI (spinal cord injury) patients use it safely. We have found that by challenging the muscles to move in specific ways, we can rebuild the nervous system pathways that were once thought to be dead.
Dardzinski Method of Recovery
Our program is based on the Dardzinski Method®. By stimulating the nervous system, we start to rebuild pathways. Through this stimulation and body positioning, we create muscle contractions that aid in the recovery process. As a patient progress, we work on improving coordination in the limbs. Many spinal cord injury patients learn to move their legs, eventually to walk with aids, and some learn to walk with no aids. The goal is to improve the quality of life for all of our patients and give them abilities they wouldn’t otherwise have gained.
SCI Recovery Specialists
Everyone on our staff is a certified SCI recovery specialist. They can help develop a workout program specific to each patient based on their injury and their current abilities. Our local program is the most successful because we can spend a substantial amount of time with our patients. But for those patients who live in Omaha, Nebraska, we offer a home recovery program. We will design a workout to teach the client how to perform the exercises correctly at home. This is a minimum one-week program and it is very intense. Our home program clients gain an understanding of what we do and why we do it along with an exercise book and DVD to aid in the transition from our facilities to their homes.
Home Recovery Training
We have clients from all over the U.S. who have taken our recovery program home with them and are making progress with the Dardzinski Method®. We believe the “impossible” is possible because we’ve seen it happen. Even if you live far away from our facility, like in Omaha, NE, you can learn to improve your mobility and live a richer life. If you have suffered a spinal cord injury or know someone who is a paraplegic or quadriplegic, please tell them to contact Project Walk at 913.451.1500 or projectwalk-kansascity.org
